Yoga Sutras Study.jpg

This 6 session workshop is for the practitioner wanting a deeper dive into the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, a text regarded as the basis for yoga philosophy. The course will offer guided discussions on the sutras, including Patanjali’s eight limbs of yoga, which offer a systematic approach to calming the mind and finding liberation from suffering. This journey is meant to be informative, inspirational and transformational in your yoga journey.

For over 2500 years The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali have served spiritual seekers of many faiths. They are among the foremost scriptures of yoga, and offer up ancient practices of Raja Yoga that still apply to our modern world.

Raja means King. A king acts with independence, self-confidence and assurance. Likewise, a Raja Yogi is autonomous, independent and fearless. Raja Yoga is the path of self-discipline lifestyle and practice and the teachings of Raja Yoga are the golden key to unlock all health, happiness, peace, connection, and joy. The eight limbs and Raja yoga gives us the entire goal of Yoga with methods to obtain this goal.

This workshop is open to anyone and everyone looking to deepen their practice on and off their yoga mat.

Participants should bring something to write with, something to write on or in, a yoga mat (rental mats are available for $5 if needed), wear comfortable clothing. Meet the Instructor: David Quimby

David is the founder of the nonprofit, The Foundation for the Advancement in Yogic Education (FAYE).  FAYE is a nonprofit giving grants and scholarships for yoga teacher training to the financially underprivileged. 100% of David’s earnings in teaching yoga go directly to the FAYE foundation.

At a very young age, David was drawn toward a spiritual way of living and the mind, body, spirit connection. He believes in the power of the Universal and that everything is a learning experience with a root in the spirituality of yoga. David loved yoga right from the start, feeling divine intent. He explored many different styles of asana, but Hot Power Yoga & Arm Balance classes were where he found his asana practice. The effort, ease, fluidity, beauty and meditative qualities of power asana captured his spirit.

David immersed himself in teacher training, not to become a teacher, but to deepen his own personal practice.  He completed his 200hr YTT through YogaWorks, under renowned teacher Ashley Rideaux.  After completing his 200hr, David felt drawn to travel to Yogaville where he completed a 165hr Raja Yoga YTT under Sri Swami Kurananda. David is also trained in the healing nature of diaphragmatic breathing under David Elliot and is currently completing his 500hr YTT at Asheville Yoga Center.

The betterment of humanity and teaching yoga through the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, asanas, pranayama and right thinking is a calling for David. Sri Swami Satchidananda summarizes the teaching of all the scriptures, as Peaceful, Easeful, and Useful, and this is what David ultimately strives to be, and offer, to any that seek to deepen their studies along this path
